About Gary’s Blog

As of February, 2012 and for at least the next three months, I decided to focus this blog on:

  1. Progress on my newest novel, Gabriel’s Covenant. I finished the manuscript in January and decided to enter the book into Amazon’s 2012 Breathrough Novel Awards contest for independent authors under the category of adult fiction.
  2. Boomerangs.  Topics for BOOMERS heading into their final passage, as Gail Sheehy, would have called it. Fun, sad, personal and  spiritually oriented commentary about the ripening boom generation. I WON’T BE BORING.

Stubborn old man

He was  a stubborn man

Old man that he is,
what’s to become of him?
Solutions painful, said aloud.
Can’t they wait?

He’ll not make it alone, not likely—
stubborn man that he is.
Won’t be the same now, not at all,
Half-crippled and without her mystery comforts.

He’s got pride’s mark, all right—
Is he what he was?
Saying things without her,
whispering amidst everyday noises,
feeding illusions— faster than carnival shell-gamers.

Pity now looks at him that special way
during dark hours of shrouded embrace.
Pretended sleep…
he pretended, they pretended—better that way,
life’s insinuation of itself, perhaps?

He knew hovering to watch death.
He’d done it,
watching, watching—her shadow swirl.
Wonderful, mysterious, soaring, roaring, diving
for who’s sake? or is it for the sake of whom?
He did not want others watching, watching…
stubborn man that he is.

Breath blowing whippoorwill sounds calling, calling
for the human heart in his house.
Board for board he knew its timber,
heard the voices, walked its walls.
In blind darkness he would go to her bed,
he liked answering calls.

He opened his lips, a pause of silence…
watching, watching – “Let me. She needs it.”
He was a stubborn man.
No, not this night.

NEW BOOK … Gabriel’s Covenant.

Gabriel’s Covenant

I’m getting closer! An edited version of my manuscript was submitted to Amazon’s 2012 Breakthrough Novel Award Contest during the last week in January. I’m working on putting the final touches on the mock up cover design and hope to have the book ready for launch in mid-April.

My story is about five days in the life of Joshua Braxton and his journey to a small high desert town in central Oregon(the first US state to pass a Death with Dignity Act). Joshua is the main character and through his eyes readers meet and come to know just a few others: Jessie, the ghostly spirit of his deceased wife; Erica, his daughter; Norman, his life long friend; Tasman, his Sheltie; and Mattie Armstrong Rush, a Gabrielite and owner of an old Tudor house on the east end of Bridgeport Avenue.

What Readers are Saying about my first book.

bonescovertnI’d love to hear your thoughts on “Leaving the Bones Behind”.  I believe these comments will help other people, who cherish the value of the written word, decide whether they would like to choose this book from a first time author. Let me know what you think by commenting on this post!
